Kranj City Library consists of the main library and 6 branches in the neighboring municipalities and has 44 employees. The library serves the population of approximately 85.000 inhabitants. 25% residents of Kranj and neighboring municipalities are members of the Kranj City Library. About 60% of residents use the library although they are not members - they can read newspapers, use computers, attend exhibitions and events for children and adults and spend leisure time in a youth room or study anywhere in the library. Kranj City Library serves also as the regional library for Gorenjska region with 205.000 inhabitants.
In 2011 the library moved to the new premises of 5.400 m2, a previous shopping mall and the building became a cultural symbol of Kranj. Beside the rich collection of library material, the library offers number of services for target groups of users, such as children, youth, elderly, immigrants. Recently it has focused on digital and information literacy and reading promotion with 22 reading clubs. Free digital courses are attended by more than 6.000 people annually.
The library offers access to rich collection of e-books, digitized local newspapers and rare books and is the regional editor of Slovenian local heritage portal Kamra and web biographical lexicon Gorenjci.si.
In 2017 the library organized 950 events with 360.000 visitors. Members borrowed more than 1 million items.
