Each institution of our national culture has an indisputable contribution to the spread of the values that our culture carries and each has a clearly defined task, especially when it comes to the reading and book culture. Taking this task into consideration all the work done over the years, our library has carried out with undisputable professionalism, dignity, ethics and culture. Literature as one of the most important representatives of our culture has its foundation in many libraries in all the cities of Albania. Even in our city, the library, which has the name of one of the most prominent patriots, has long since realized its civic and cultural mission. Talking about her years means taking into account all the work from the foundation up to the present day. In his halls, dozens of readers, scholars and lovers of the book enter each day. Numerous generations have been formed in these halls and today there are many scholars and intellectuals who have always been the most zealous attendants of it.

This care for years is called the library "Thimi Mitko".

The public library of Korça was created in July 1921,under the auspices of Fedara "Vatra". She was led by Mice Frashëri as a scrupulous guardian and was located near the Municipality with a regulation of her own. In this way, the library as a cultural institution traveled to the often difficult contexts of the flow of history, but based on the strong desire and love of the korcas for the book of culture and knowledge.

He heard the voice of the people of Korca, in the first place of the Korça Youth was Thoma Turtulli, the great figure of Albanian mireberesia, born in Korce on 15 February 1863, who donated the library building on 28 November 1930, her engineer was Nastas Pilika. The Minister of Education of that period, Xhafer Ypi, of Thoma Turtulli telegraph, that the President of the Republic Ahmet Zogu honored the high patriotic work and accepted the proposal of the Ministry of Education for the decoration of Thoma Turtulli with the order "Commander of the Order of Skenderbeu"

In the press of the time, the Korca newspaper of 1930 wrote: "The mayor of the municipality informed us that the inauguration of the city library will become the national holiday day, November 28, which was called the People's Library."

The occasional word was kept by its director, Nikolla Lako (1891-1962), a patriot who merged the entire service life of the people, a great publicist and scholar, who pointed out that the library that was opening the doors would become the site of civilization, knowledge and progress. Prior to the Declaration of Independence he had collected books with Albanian thematic collections collected by the French bakeries and still unfinished the buildings Nikolla who had dreamed of a library in Korca brought it to the 25,000 volume of books (his personal library gave it to his eastern city) .

Nikola Lako was the pupil of the first mesoneviore, then we see him as a teacher of this school. Because of the pursuit of the Turkish authorities who oppressed the Albanian patriots, Lako is forced to worship outside the homeland to continue his patriotic activity. He went to Sofia becoming one of the best collaborators of the newspaper "Drita". Then the publication of "Albania" was started. For a while, he continues his activity in the city of Kostance, which is not located in France, where he stayed for about 20 years. The patriot's main attention attracted the need for his homeland to schoolbooks. Therefore, his first activity is devoted to publishing books in this leaflet. It is worth mentioning the primer in the dialect of "Literature", as well as other textbooks, singing and grammar for the first mesoneviorit. The publicity activity will culminate with the publication in Paris of the patriotic magazine "Opinga", which will contribute to the propagation of during the proceedings of the Peace Conference in Paris during 1919-1920 and the work "Rights of Albania".

One of the most notable figures of the library is Thimi Mitko, a prominent National Renaissance activist whose folklorist contribution is also known, but above all, he is known as the founder of Albanian folklore.

Thimi Mitko has long entered the Panteon of our National Renaissance. Its statue in this pantheon has had as a pedestal the wonderful folklore collection "Albanian Bee". With the revived "Pontifical" work, this pedestal becomes taller and with it is the figure of this man from the early transept of the Renaissance.

Later the library's riches influenced many Korça patriots inside and outside the country.

The library was also enriched by another great charity, Spiro Dine, who brought from Misiri its editions, among which his "Sea Waves" and original edition Thimi Mitkos's "Blubber". Besides the book he donated some valuable collections since its foundation. Meanwhile, the library was enriched with the books published by Patriot Dhori Koti in his printing press, where we highlight the works of Foqon Postoli and Mihal Gramenos. After that, the library was enriched with the works of Naim and Sami Frashëri, the press of time, so that the Library was based on the scientific basis of the time.

In 1975, the public library of Korça was transferred to the new building, where it held the activity for 41 years.

Our main library services include: • the use of national and foreign printed heritage • borrowing (of printed materials) • organization of cultural activities • organizing various meetings and meetings  • exhibitions and other activities.  It is worth pointing out here that the public library "Thimi Mitko" has already started its development course for four years, becoming a full member of the COBISS network, a network of autonomous library systems, the system that makes it easy reader search for various library materials. Korça, the southeastern city of Albania, the center of prominent patriotic events in the struggle for freedom and independence, Korça of the "First Albanian Teacher" and culture, has also had a prominent tradition in the field of journalism and journalism. It occupies one of the first places in the history of Albanian journalism with over 28 titles of newspapers and magazines published during the past century. Following the newspaper "L'Albanese d'Italia" published in 1848 in Naples, directed by the well-known Jeronim De Rada, known as the first newspaper in the history of the Albanian press and which appeared in Italian and partly in Albanian (arbërisht), especially outside the newspaper, and within the borders of Albania. In this regard Shkodra and Korça are the first and give a positive example for the other provinces and cities of Albania.

Our transition to everywhere in the culture faces many problems that are known to all, but we have never stopped our passionate work to serve today's and future generations, otherwise we would give up our noble mission, serving the citizens anytime. The time we live in and Albania's aspirations to enter Europe requires a hard work of our staff to reach European standards in the modernization of the library and the entire library fund that we have available to best serve the reader's service . The conditions under which library materials were depleted, depreciation over the years and the good will of the local government enabled the implementation of this ambitious project to have a new library according to European standards of libraries. Korca as a precursor of culture is here again the first to create a library of this kind in albania.
